What does a speech pathologist do?
A speech pathologist helps people with communication and swallowing/feeding difficulties. At Raised with Joy Speech Pathology we work with clients who have speech, language, stuttering, literacy and feeding difficulties.
Who do you work with?
At Raised with Joy Speech Pathology we work with children with communication and feeding/ swallowing difficulties. We support clients in the following areas:
- Speech sound skills
- Language skills
- Stuttering
- Literacy
- Feeding/swallowing for children
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Developmental Delays
Do I need a GP referral to see a speech pathologist?
No, anyone can refer to Speech Pathology! Although, if you would like to claim a rebate through Medicare, you will need to see your GP for this referral. This referral will give you 5 visits with a speech pathologist with a rebate of approximately $54 each session (for up to 5 sessions).
How much does it cost to see a speech pathologist?
It varies. Raised with Joy Speech Pathology is committed to keeping our costs as accessible as possible.

Our fees are based on the type of service we provide and the time that we spend with you. We offer a range of services including assessments, reviews, therapy sessions and programming. These services are tailored to your individual needs.
Can I claim a rebate through my private health fund or Medicare?
Usually, yes, though please contact your private health fund directly to determine if you are eligible for a rebate.
You may also be eligible for rebates for up to five (5) appointments per calendar year, through Medicare. Your doctor will need to complete a Medicare referral form before you attend speech pathology to be eligible for the rebate. You will be required to pay for your services at the time of your appointment, then process the rebate through Medicare online.
Do you see clients with NDIS funding?
Yes! We see clients who are NDIS participants who are either plan managed or self-managed.
Do you work with children with Autism and/or developmental delays?
Yes! Speech pathologists often play a key role in the treatment of children with Autism and/or developmental delays. We support communication development for children with additional needs. At Raised with Joy Speech Pathology, we are trained in the Hanen – More Than Words program which is designed for supporting parents and children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and social communication difficulties. Therapy is very individualised, so please get in touch if you’d like to learn more about how we can help.
How long will my child need therapy for?
We offer flexibility with appointment frequency, working to meet your individual needs. The number of appointments will vary for each client based on the type and severity of the communication or feeding difficulties.
Should my child’s hearing be tested?
If you have concerns about your child’s communication development, or your child has a history of ear infections or recurrent colds, it is recommended that a hearing assessment is completed.
Can you come to my child’s school or preschool/ day-care?
Yes. We love working with your child’s school or preschool and supporting educators to help your child’s communication development.
